In an industry dominated by testosterone, Girlschool burst onto the scene in 1978, during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal Bands like Motörhead, Iron Maiden, and Def Leppard were just starting to get recognized by the world at large. However, even with a major fan\occasional contributor in Lemmy from Motörhead, Girlschool's road to success was a rocky one.
Several line-up changes and demands by the suits at their record labels to soften their image and music affected their output throughout their career. They broke up in late 1988, only to reunite in 1992 for their self-titled CD. The original "Riot Grrrls," after 3 live CDs and a brief hiatus, returned with a brand new 2002 album, "21st Anniversary: Not That Innocent", celebrating the 21st Anniversary of the birth of Girlschool. In 2006, they released their long-awaited album "Believe" and a new album in November 2008: "Legacy" to celebrate their 30th Anniversary. |
