This is the story as to how we found out that Gil was in Girlschool - Gil was employed to work with us in our office as part of the IT team, working as a "Caldicott Implementation Project Manager". We went out to one of our local pubs one Xmas - just for a lunchtime beverage to celebrate the impending Xmas holidays, you understand - and the conversation turned to bass guitars and playing for bands.
Our then intranet Project Officer was in a band and played bass guitar. She was talking about playing the guitar - how she holds it, the style of playing etc. when suddenly - and very quietly - from the corner of the table came Gil's very soft and gentle voice. Well, I could hardly hear her amongst all the hubbub going on in the pub, but what she said was "I was in a band once". Having heard this, I asked her what band she was in, thinking that she was in a local band, such as Lynda. She said "Girlschool". That was it. I was totally gobsmacked and had to ask Gil several times "what THE Girlschool??". To which she replied "yes". We went back to the office after lunch where I looked up some information on the Internet about Girlschool - and sure enough - there was Gil in with the rest of the girls. It wasn't until then that I started to remember her back in the days when she was in the band - indeed I went to see her in concert once when they were the supporting act. From that moment on she has never ceased to amaze me with all the people - rock stars - that she knows or used to know when she was on tour. All from this quiet, unassuming lady!
